Mountain Biking in Italy: Have Fun, Enjoy Marvellous Landscapes and Stay Fit

Have you ever done a mountain bike trip in the mountains of northern Italy? The landscape may be different, but the enjoyment is immense as the mountains. First off, you must be fit enough.  What is required is a little bit of training: you must start with a little slope, say half an hour of climbing, and increase it gradually until you can handle three or four hours of climbing. Don’t be put off.  I had a good friend who started out riding electric bicycles and even simple folding bikes on flat terrain – he was so unfit.  But his philosophy was to improve in small steps.  Now he can scale high mountains on his mountain bike.

It’s a good idea to record the amount you can climb (your maximum) to be sure of your limits. First start with a couple of hundred meters (six hundred feet roughly). All you need to do is to read the altitude of your starting and ending point in a map and note the difference. When you have reached say one thousand meters (three thousands two hundred feet) you are ready to begin your exciting experience.

First of all you should find a biking trail on a map, and nowadays most tourist resorts in the mountains have a list of mountain trails you can go on, so if you don’t know the place you must start from a resort. Italy is a very crowded country and it’s roads are full of cars, but it is still possible to find some unpaved roads which are forbidden to cars, and even some paths may be good, although in some part of them it may be impossible to ride with your bike so you must dismount from it and push it, (what a dishonour for a bicycle rider!). But the experience You have and the joy of some beautiful landscapes are worth going through all the hurdles required.
