Coping with Ragweed Allergy
April 7, 2010 on 11:08 am | By admin | In Health and Fitness | Comments OffThe months of July to October can be agonising for the millions of people that suffer from Hayfever aka ragweed allergy. Most people sit in anticipation of a long hot summer but there are also many people that dread this prospect as it brings them months of sheer torture in the way of an allergic reaction brought on by exposure to airborne pollen and pollen bearing plants where ever they turn.
The Ragweed plant produces the most allergenic pollen of all plants and is found all over north and south America along with many other northern hemisphere countries.
Due to the nature of how the pollen is spread, through the air, it is impossible to provide a definitive measure to prevent those that are allergic from suffering. Besides packing your bags every summer and taking a trip to the arctic, all you can do is find what the best ways to cope with the condition are.
A lot of people do not even know how to identify a Ragweed plant from regular garden or open land weeds. However doing a bit of research can go a long way. By recognising that you have Ragweed plants on or around your property you can at least make an effort to remove all traces before July when the plant begins to produce up to and release 20 billion grains of pollen. It is true that eradicating the plant completely is very difficult and you will likely see it return but having to go through the removal process once a year is definitely going to go some way to coping with ragweed allergy. By leaving the plants around your property it is not even that you have to touch them in order to experience severe allergy symptoms. Pollen can travel through the air into your house through open doors and windows and it can stick to your washing that you hang outside to dry. Pollen will be in the air none the less but the amount will be reduced if you manipulate the environment around you. Using air filters inside your house can also be a great way of coping with Ragweed Allergy, these can remove pollen. Keep your doors and windows closed as much as possible, do not let the pollen into the place you are the safest, indoors! As with any illness there are a variety of medicines that are available to reduce ragweed allergy symptoms. Medicine is obviously the most common way of coping with Ragweed Allergy and you will find pharmacies loading the shelves during the season, this can be costly so it is often wise to pre-order on-line or buy in bulk!
